Obituary of William Dutton

William Benton “Buzz” Dutton, 97, of Beardstown, died Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born December 24, 1920 in Litchfield, the son of Harry and Kathryn Lueschen Dutton.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Dutton of Rochester and Brad (Ruth) Dutton of Rushville; four grandchildren, Annie (Terry) Smith of Canton, Jesse Dutton of Springfield, Charity Crowe of Beardstown and Marisa (Michael) Logan of Rushville; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, June Prange, Jewel Faris, Harriet Ortman and Dorothy Faris; and one brother, Vernon Dutton.

Mr. Dutton was a graduate of Litchfield High school and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theater. Buzz was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad for over 40 years, retiring in 1980. He loved attending area parades, especially the Beardstown Fall Fun Festival and Illinois State Fair parades. Buzz enjoyed travelling, playing cards and rooting for the Chicago Cubs. His true joy came from his family, whether it was attending family cookouts, playing dolls with the grandchildren or singing to them, “Racing With the Moon”, Buzz cherished time spent with his family.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 6, 2018 at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. There will be no formal visitation. Memorials are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sagerfuneralhome.com. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of the arrangements.
