Obituary of Melvin McCoy

Melvin J “Bud” McCoy, 90, of Beardstown, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at Bay Breeze Nursing Home in Gulf Breeze, FL.

He was born August 23, 1927 in Beardstown, the son of Orvy and Rosie Rohlfing McCoy. He married Donna Bollhorst on March 26, 1950 in Beardstown and she preceded him in death on July 22, 2016.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen (Jean C.) McCoy of Pleasant Plains and Doug (Karla) McCoy of Washington; one grandson, Dirk (Ali) McCoy of Pekin; two great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Joslyn McCoy; and two sisters, Maxine Rogers of Texas and Betty Bowman of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Junior McCoy and one sister, Rosina Sullivan.

Mr. McCoy was a veteran of United States Navy having served during the Korean War. He was employed by Caterpillar in the Peoria area for 35 years as a middle manager and was a member of Beardstown Elks Lodge 1007. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, caring for his lawn and spending time out on the family farm.

A funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, February 23, 2018 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
