Gilbert “Gene” Eugene Nash, 74, of Beardstown died January 3, 2018 at his home.
He was born May 25, 1943 in Bunker, MO, the son of William Jackson and Virgie Hubbard Nash. He married Velma Self and they later divorced, then married Betty Lisenbee Briggs on March 10, 1991 in Beardstown and she survives.
He is survived by his children, Jeanie Cluney, Ronnie Nash and Reeda Coats, all of Beardstown, Lori (Nick) Gustafson of Mt. Vernon, LeRoy (Tara Russell) Nash of Beardstown, Denise Curtis of Brooklyn, Dennis Wardell of Macomb and Nellie (Shawn) Knous of Meredosia; eighteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley (Jim) Bush of Midland, MI. He was preceded in death by two sons, Mike Nash and Loren Briggs; two grandchildren, Erica Lane and Brittini Allen; five brothers, Donald, Ronnie, LeRoy, Harold and Bill Nash; and three sisters, Violet Johnson, Willadean Larkin and Janet Miers.
Mr. Nash worked as a farm hand and a general laborer in construction for many years before being employed by Cargill in Beardstown. He enjoyed ginseng and mushroom hunting, junkyard “scrapping” and playing his guitar and banjo.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Saturday January 6, 2018 at Sager Funeral with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
