Stephen P. Vaniter, 60, of Salisbury and formerly of Beardstown, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born November 5, 1956 in Jacksonville, the son of Alva, Jr and Loretta Angelo Vaniter. He married Carolyn “Susie” Applegate on August 22, 1994 in Nashville, TN and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2014.
He is survived by his mother, Loretta of Jacksonville; one son, Travis Vaniter of Peoria; two sisters, Tammy (Gary) Surratt of Chapin and Jodi (Roman) Essery of Joliet; three step-children, Angela (Danny) Schisler of Monmouth, Stacy (Mike) Swanger of Brooklyn, Rob (Breann) McGovern of Virginia; five step-grandchildren, Shaniah Anderson, Hunter Savage, Michala Swanger, RD McGovern and Emily Pratt; several nieces and nephews; and significant other, LeAnn Dufner of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his father.
Stephen was a 1975 graduate of Winchester High School and most recently worked for Herzog Contracting Corporation as a heavy equipment operator. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed riding every chance he was given.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet with friends from 9:30 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
