Irene Haber, 95, of Beardstown, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at her home.
She was born September 12, 1922 in Virginia, the daughter of Ulysses and Sylvia Smith Jones. She married Carl Junior Haber on February 11, 1940 in Beardstown and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1992.
She is survived by her children, Joan Burton of Carterville, Lynn Haber and Dale Haber, both of Beardstown; four grandchildren, John (Angie) Olson of Duvall, WA, Tom (Lela) Burton of Herron, Danielle Burton of Carterville and Bret (Loretta) Haber of Columbus, NE; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Imogene Way of Salem, MO; one brother, Gene Jones of LaPorte, IN; and two granddogs, Koby and Saichi. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, James and Robert Haber; one brother, William Jones; and one sister, Winifred Smith.
Mrs. Haber was employed as a meat cutter at Myers Superette in Beardstown for over 20 years, then worked at Kent’s IGA in the deli for several years. Irene was very active in the school system while raising her children and served as Beard School PTA President. She enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. Irene was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was always so giving of herself and willing to help a friend or neighbor in need.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, September 25, 2017 at Sager Funeral Home with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet with friends 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
